National gallery reopens the east wing
Closed for four years, and rehung from scratch.
The National Gallery reopened its east wing on Saturday after four years of repairs.
The wing was closed when water damage was found in the roof. The repair turned into a full renovation, with new lighting, climate control and a lift to the upper floor.

The curators used the closure to rethink the collection. The opening exhibition places works from the permanent collection alongside pieces by artists who have never shown at the gallery before.
Entry to the east wing is free for the first month. After that the usual gallery fee applies, with free entry for students and school groups on weekday mornings.
