City publishes a water schedule that holds

Three weeks after the city council published a supply schedule for every suburb, residents say the taps have mostly run when the timetable said they would.

The schedule divides the city into four zones. Each zone receives water on set days, with the times printed in the council notice and on the notice boards at ward offices.

Why it is holding

Engineers say the difference this time is that the schedule was built around what the treatment works can actually deliver, rather than what the city would like it to deliver.

Two burst mains in the eastern suburbs caused unscheduled cuts last week, and the council posted updates within the hour. Residents associations in those areas asked for the updates to go out by SMS as well.

The council will review the schedule at the end of the month, when the second treatment plant returns from maintenance.
